The 2023 United Kingdom GP at Silverstone

The pinnacle of motorsports heads to Britain for the 2023 British Grand Prix at the iconic Silverstone Circuit. Fans can witness the action with a variety of premium hospitality packages.

Max Verstappen is the -300 favorite at Caesars Sportsbook to win, followed by Red Bull Racing teammate Sergio Perez and Mercedes duo George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. But the model has one big surprise fading Leclerc at +1400.

What to Expect

After the sprint weekend in Austria, Formula 1 returns to a more traditional schedule for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The race is the 10th of 23 races in 2023, and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen will be looking to extend his lead in the drivers’ championship ahead of team-mate Sergio Perez.

The Dutchman looked almost unbeatable during preseason testing, and he will be hoping to add the British GP to his tally after a disappointing result last year. But Silverstone has not been a happy hunting ground for Verstappen in recent years, with a first-lap clash with Lewis Hamilton in 2021 and car floor damage at the track last season leaving him to struggle home in seventh place.

If the Dutchman does win, it will be the first British GP victory for a Red Bull driver since 2012. Lando Norris will be hoping to secure his first podium of the season after a strong performance in qualifying on Saturday, while Mercedes’ George Russell will be eager to break into the top 10. The American audience will also be keen to see Logan Sargeant make a good impression as he continues his rookie season with Williams, but the 28-year-old is unlikely to feature among the frontrunners this week.

With Mercedes and Ferrari both having some problems in recent races, they will be looking to turn things around at Silverstone. The former will be buoyed by the return of team boss Maurizio Arrivabene, while the latter will hope to see some improvement from the new-look SF90. The Italian team have a new technical director in Fred Vasseur after replacing Mattia Binotto, and the Frenchman will be eager to prove he can improve the car.

As ever, the British GP is expected to deliver some fantastic on-track action, with high-speed straights and demanding corners providing the perfect backdrop for some thrilling battles on track. In addition to the racing, fans can look forward to a spectacular atmosphere at the circuit with a host of entertainment including live music from the Killers and Queen and other performers.

Track Info

The British Grand Prix is a tradition in Formula 1 and it takes place on the hallowed Silverstone circuit this weekend. Located just half-an-hour’s drive from Red Bull’s Milton Keynes headquarters, the home race has been dominated by Mercedes and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton for more than a decade. However, McLaren rookie Lando Norris looked set to upset the odds with a shock pole position in qualifying before Verstappen pulled ahead of his team-mate for Red Bull’s fifth consecutive top-step finish this season.

There are 23 races on the 2023 calendar and the schedule has been growing rapidly in recent years. New tracks have joined the circuit, including the Jeddah Corniche in Saudi Arabia, and old favorites such as Melbourne and Singapore have returned after cancellation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The schedule will also be expanded to include a new race in Las Vegas, the first ever held in the United States.

This season’s championship battle is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in decades. Max Verstappen has been in superb form and he will be keen to maintain his momentum by scoring more points than anyone else in the closing stages of the season.

While the Red Bull man is a huge favorite to win, his team-mate Leclerc will also be fighting to secure his first World title. The Frenchman is ranked third in the standings after a second-place finish in Austria last week, but the model is predicting that he will fall behind Verstappen by the end of the year.

The British GP is the first of five European races this year, so it will be important for both teams to get off to a strong start to the weekend and avoid any slip-ups early on. The circuit’s width will be crucial as drivers will have to take a variety of lines during the lap. The layout starts with a flat-out chicane, before the big braking zone at Turn Three (Village) and into a section known as The Loop.

Schedule

The British GP at Silverstone is one of the big events of the summer for Formula 1 fans, with Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Lando Norris all hoping to secure good results. While the spectators will be mainly interested in how fast the drivers can go, there is also a great line up of musical acts taking to the stage at the event over the weekend.

The weekend begins with two 1-hour free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday, before qualifying takes place to decide starting positions for the race. The race is scheduled to begin at 14:00 BST on Sunday.

Following his seventh win of the season in Austria last week, Max Verstappen heads to Britain with an 81-point lead in the Drivers’ Championship and looking to extend his advantage over second placed Sebastian Vettel. He is also the only current F1 driver with a race win at the Silverstone circuit, and will be desperate to add another triumph there.

2023 is a landmark year for Formula 1, with the calendar increasing to 23 races across five continents, including three rounds in the US. There has been talk of re-arranging the schedule to make life easier for teams, given the long distances they must travel for each round. That could see Miami and Canada moved closer together, and the races in Asia grouped.

Despite the controversy surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, it seems likely that the majority of races will retain their contracts for 2023. That includes the return of the Chinese Grand Prix, a new race in Las Vegas (to be held on a Saturday night), and returns to the existing rounds at Shanghai, Italy (Monza) and the United States (COTA).

There is also talk that the final two rounds of the European season, at the Belgian and Dutch Grands Prix, could be swapped with the French and Italian Grands Prix being grouped together. It remains to be seen what impact these changes will have on the balance of the season.

Predictions

Max Verstappen has been the class of the field for the better part of 2023 and it looks as if he will take another step forward this weekend at Silverstone. The Dutchman won last week in Austria and holds a commanding 81-point lead atop the Drivers Championship standings. However, Verstappen has never won the British Grand Prix which is why Insidersbettingdigest makes him one of the favorites for this race on July 9.

Red Bull has not won at the track located just a half-hour drive from their Milton Keynes factory since 2012. The team will start their home race in fourth place with Lando Norris on the front row. The hometown hero is the top-rated qualifier in Q3 and he should be in great shape to win the opening laps.

The other notable name on the starting grid is Pierre Gasly who will start 10th. The Frenchman has shown solid speed in qualifying and is a strong contender for the final podium position. He’s a solid pick to finish in the points with -160 odds at FanDuel.

McLaren will be looking to build on their P4 finish from Austria and will need both of their drivers to score a double top 6. Their best bet is on Lando Norris who will be running the new aero kit and has shown flashes of brilliance in practice.

The team’s other driver, George Russell, is in a much better position to earn a podium spot with the car he will run at Silverstone. He was able to pass Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in Austria and there are some reports of an upcoming upgrade for the Brit which should help him close the gap on his title rival at the track.
